http://www.nipabooks.com/books/detail/9789380235929.jpgThe book entitled “Applied Computational Biology and Statistics in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics” is aimed to cater to the growing demand of academia, researchers and commercial ventures. Altogether there are forty-four chapters divided into the following broad sections like 1. Bioinformatics, Genomics and Proteomics, 2. Phylogeny 3. Drug Design and Epigenomics 4. Advanced Computational Tools and Techniques 5. Statistical methods for computational biology, data mining and visualization 6. Socio Economics and Ethics. This book presents the foundations of key problems in computational molecular biology and bioinformatics. It contains basic molecular biology concepts, tools, techniques and ways to measure sequence similarity, presents simple applications of searching sequence databases. After introducing methods for aligning multiple biological sequences and genomes, the text explores applications of the phylogenetic tree, methods for comparing phylogenetic trees, the problem of gene expression and motif finding. Interestingly, it is attempted to introduce computational biology without formulas that presents the biological and computational ideas in a relatively simple manner. It focuses on computational and statistical principles applied to genomes, and introduces the computational statistics that are crucial for understanding and visualization of problems. This makes the material accessible to Statistician and computer scientists without biological training, as well as to biologists with limited background in Statistics and computer science. Furthermore, one chapter has been exclusively devoted to computational biology and computational statistics as applied in biotechnology illustrated with methodology, application and interpretation of results. More than four hundred figures, illustrations and diagrams reinforce concepts and present key results from the primary literature that will be very much useful to grasp on the subject, visualize the output and make right interpretation of the result.
The book will be useful for all those working in Biotechnology sector in general and particularly researchers working in the laboratories of ICAR, CSIR, SAU’s and many more institutions engaged R&D activities.

Post Demonetization Budget-2017- Expectations, Apprehensions and Reality: India's Budget-2017

Post Demonetization Budget-2017- Expectations, Apprehensions and Reality: India's Budget-2017 (Demonetisation Book 2)   Kindle Edition by  ajit roy   (Author, Editor) The Prime Minister's announcement of the withdrawal of ₹1000 and ₹500 notes ranks among the most significant economic measures taken by his government. The audacious move has given birth to hopes of a decisive blow to the black economy, terrorism and counterfeit currency. It is also being lauded for its potential to convert India into a cashless economy. The backdrop to the Budget was a fairly volatile past few months with multiple issues such as (a) demonetisation; (b) ambiguities on indirect transfer taxes; (c) treaty changes to India-Mauritius Treaty etc. Union finance minister Arun Jaitley stepped into Parliament on February 1, 2017, unveiled India’s first post demonetisation Budget. Many people have questioned if this move is the biggest disruption for electronic payments in 2016. Remone...

Evaluation of Performance of Primary Fisheries Cooperative Societies (MSS) of Tripura A.D. Upadhyay, M. Sinha, 1 , A.K. Roy, J.R. Dhanze and D.K. Pandey College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University, Lembucherra Tripura – 799 210, India 1 Directorate of Fisheries, Govt. of Tripura, Agartala, India Email:ad_up@rediffma Abstract Fishermen cooperatives are recognized as means of socio-economic development of fishers/fish  farming community, which generally belong to weaker section of the society. The state of Tripura  has made significant progress in fish production by 197 per cent from 2004-05 to 2011-12. An  attempt has been made in this paper to analyse the status of Fishermen Cooperatives in Tripura with  respect to water holdings and fish and fish seed production. It has been found that the fishermen  cooperative in Tripura like other states of the country is not encouraging because majority of them...

Statistical Methods for Genomic Sequence and Microarray Analysis

Statistical Methods for Genomic Sequence and Microarray Analysis A.K. Roy1 and S.R. Martha1 1 Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture Kausalyaganga,Bhubaneshwar – 751 002,Odisha Multivariate analysis methods such as Correspondence Analysis and Principle Component Analysis have often been used to identify major trends of variation in synonymous codon usage among inter or intra specific genes. Genetic codes are degenerate meaning most of amino acids can be encoded by more than one codon (triplet of nucleotides); such codons are synonymous and usually differ by one nucleotide in the third position. The alternative synonymous codons are not used with similar frequency and their usage varies among different genes. Hence there is the presence of Relative Synonymous Codon Usage values.
